A popular wedding photographer died in a road accident near a hospital.

Chester Fromm, 52, of Grand Avenue, Worthing, died after colliding with a lorry as he crossed the A27 last Monday at about 4.52pm.

He was taken to Worthing Hospital but medics were unable to save him.

The 42-year-old lorry driver, from Hampshire, was uninjured but suffered from severe shock.

The accident happened on the outskirts of Worthing near Swandean Hospital, the site of a psychiatric unit.

People living near the accident scene said they heard a scream and saw a man lying in the road, which had to be shut for more than an hour.

Mr Fromm was a well-known photographer in Worthing, having compiled the wedding albums of thousands of couples.

He was also renowned as a colourful character, often arriving at weddings in a vintage car.

Fellow photographer David Oakley, of David Oakley Photography, Melville Way, Goring, said: "He was well-known in the business and years ago was known as being quite an energetic photographer. He would climb up trees to take photos."

Bachelor Mr Fromm, who also ran a car hire business for weddings and at one stage owned a Rolls-Royce, had recently reduced his workload.

Colleagues who saw him in the weeks leading up to his death were shocked at how frail he looked.

An inquest will be held.
