I was most interested to read John Hodgson's letter about real Tories (Opinion, July 4).

When I was employed by the Civil Service, as part of signing the Official Secrets Act, I had to be vetted by an MoD official. It was quite a daunting experience for me, especially as I had to bare my soul about a fairly nasty divorce some years earlier.

However, I was recorded politically as "left of centre" and this gave me food for thought. I know I am very social-minded (as were and are most female members of my family) but Mr Blair and co do not fit my profile. They should be renamed New Tory, not New Labour.
