Nine-year-old Keiran Hughes just keeps on winning gold medals.

The nine-year-old from TNJC in Chichester, the youngest competitor, won the under-30kg junior boys' event at the Sussex Open at Worthing.

It came a day after he claimed first place in the Northern Home Counties Open in High Wycombe and also follows gold medal successes at the Ben Mesters and Venray international meetings in Holland.

Also in the junior events, Mayes' son Andrew (Rising Sun, Worthing) won the under-46kg, defeating British squad members Graham Trinder (Pinewood, Berkshire) and Brett Caswell (Portsmouth) on the way. He struck a bronze medal at Wycombe.

Zodiac pair Katie Sumner and Carli Avery won gold too.

Bethani Clegg (Zodiac, Hastings) and Katie Hill (TNJC) gained medals at Worthing and Wycombe.

In the youth event at the Open, Claire Tullett (TNJC ), Lizzie Welsh (Brighton) and Zodiac duo Aaron Church and Ben Cowell were winners.

There were around 300 players involved in the Open from all over the south.

Sussex results from the Sussex Open included Juniors: Boys: Under-30kg: 3 Gareth Rann (Mid Sussex Martial Arts, Burgess Hill). Under-38kg: 3 Craig Tullett (TNJC). Under-42kg: 2 Harry Mann (Zodiac). Under-55kg: 3 David Bashford (Brighton). Under-66kg: 3 Ryan Johnstone (Lewes).

Girls: Under-36kg: 3 Alice Suckling (Niru Hatake,Cuckfield). Under-40kg: 3 Lindsay Haggart (Niru Hatake). Under-44kg: 1 Katie Sumner (Zodiac), 3 Bethani Clegg (Zodiac). Under-48kg: 3 Katie Hill (TNJC). Under-52kg: 1 Carli Avery (Zodiac), 3 Katherine Rix (Joff, Peacehaven). Under-57kg: 3 Tracy Bird (TNJC).

Youth: Boys: Under-60kg: 3 Callum Harmer (Lewes). Under-66kg: 3 Oliver Relton (Joff ). Under-73kg: 1 Aaron Church (Zodiac), 2 James Palmer (Copthorne). Under-90kg: 1 Ben Cowell (Zodiac)
