Schools are to receive more than £1 million to spend on new junior classrooms.
The boost, announced by schools minister Catherine Ashton today, is directed at schools which have increased their intake to help them meet the Government's infant class size pledge.
The new classrooms will enable children aged eight to 11 to stay in smaller classes as they move up through school.
In East Sussex, £1,243,000 has been allocated for new classrooms at Cross in Hand Primary School, near Heathfield; Little Common School; Pebsham Community Primary School in Bexhill; Polegate Primary School; Silverdale Primary School, St Leonards; and St Paul's Primary School in Hastings.
In West Sussex, Albourne primary in Hassocks is to receive £156,734.
It is hoped the new classrooms will be ready for use from September 2002 as infants in the expanded schools move into junior classes.
