Marina Bloom and Tony Richardson have shone in endurance events that few riders would even dream of tackling.

Bloom (Crawley Wheelers) teamed up with Hampshire rider Ralph Dadswell to set five new long-distance tandem tricycle records.

They broke a London to York record of 8hr.56min.4sec, then restarted and carried on to set a York to Edinburgh record of 10hr.44min.40sec. The pair also set a London to Edinburgh best time of 19hr.40min.40sec.

Along the way, they broke a 12-hour record of 265 miles and, after reaching Edinburgh, carried on to set a 24-hour record of 450 miles.

Richardson (Brighton Mitre) finished tenth overall in the Ironman Triathlon at Wolverhampton.

The event entailed a two-and a-half-mile swim, a 112-mile cycle ride and a full marathon. Richardson did all three in 10hr.9min.20sec.

The final 25km Hove Park circuit race was won by Bournemouth star Bryan Taylor, who also won the series overall.

Taylor won the sprint finish by a length from London riders Tom and Steve White, Dan Clark (Brighton Excelsior) finished seventh.

Mark Winton (Lewes Wanderers), winner of the recent South East League Road Race at Sevenoaks, was eighth.

Steve Dennis (East Grinstead) won Brighton Mitre's 33-mile time trial at Loxwood, held in pouring rain. Dennis, second last year, clocked 1hr.15min.56sec.

He beat Guildford rider James Millard (Charlotteville) who clocked 1hr.16min.44sec.

Tristan Court (Brighton Mitre) was third with 1hr.17min.44sec. Backed by Andy Green (1hr.21min.36sec) and Jay Chisnall (1hr.26min.11sec), he helped Mitre won the team event.

Bloom won the women's event in 1hr.27min.23sec.

Race favourite Michael Hutchinson (Team MDT) punctured but had the consolation of winning a 25-mile event at Oxford earlier in the day in which Hastings rider Peter Tadros (VC Bayeux) was second.

STEVE Elms (In Gear) will bid for his sixth Sussex 25-mile title in seven years in Sunday's event starting just north of Steyning.

His main rival is expected to be team-mate Alan Curtis.
