Off-duty detectives who chased a bag thief arrested the wrong man - but found him in possession of drugs.
They spotted the thief in a city pub where they were drinking and followed him to Kings Place, off North Street.
They lost him in the street and thought they'd spotted him later in a parked car.
It turned out to be the wrong man, but he was searched and found to be in possession of cannabis, other drugs and £3,000 in cash.
Acting Detective Inspector Russ Balgey praised the officers.
He said: "They were out relaxing with a drink and did the right thing.
"They may have lost their man in the first instance but they ended up with a result."
