Fire and ambulance crews were called to a police station after a suspect package was found.
The parcel was discovered at Centenary House in Littlehampton Road, Worthing, at about 8pm yesterday.
It was accompanied by a note which hinted at the possibility of a bomb.
Staff called the Army bomb squad, which took the package to a field behind the station and sent in robots to examine it.
An X-ray of the package revealed it contained nothing more sinister than an audio cassette.
