Julie Salmon will step back into the international arena next week.

The former Wimbledon star from Brighton has been called up for Britain in the World Team Over-35s Cup.

Salmon, who reached the third round at the All England Club, flies out to Austria next Friday to compete. She has represented Britain at almost every age group.

She said: "When I first got selected I probably cried I was so overwhelmed. But being chosen for your country still represents something very special, very exciting. There's just something about it that never leaves you.

"I've got my British kit and I'll be proud to wear it."

She is part of a team that also includes Amanda Brown, sister of the former West Ham player Kenny and daughter of ex-Hammers and Norwich manager Ken.

Salmon last flew the flag in the mid Nineties.

She said: "Coaching is my job though and I'm loving it.

"A few of the girls I coach at the Brighton Health and Racquets Club in Falmer are making decent progress like Natasha Khan, from Brighton, and Joaisha Zajac, from Uckfield."

Sussex maintained their position in the third division of the LTA Ladies Inter County 35 and over Championships at Devonshire Park, Eastbourne.

They defeated Nottinghamshire 3-2 and lost 4-1 to table-toppers Leicestershire, before their match against Middlesex was scrapped because of rain after Frances Candy had won the first game.
