Jodey Rowland is relishing the Richard Hudson show at Bognor Regis.

While Hudson shows off his tricky skills tight to the right touchline, Rowland is being allowed extra licence to get forward from left back.

He was rewarded by his second goal for the club on Tuesday, hitting the late winner at Barking which took Jack Pearce's men second in the Division One table.

Rowland has been making steady progress since transferring from Arundel, where his dad Mick is manager.

He filled in a few times for the Rocks in midweek games two seasons ago, but decided to concentrate on Ryman League football just under a year ago and has been improving ever since.

He admitted: "Left back is a new role for me, but I'm getting to enjoy it.

"I was playing sweeper at Arundel but I had a chat with my dad and he said I should play at the best standard I could.

"I was here as a youth teamer anyway and I live a five minute walk from the ground so I am a Bognor boy."

Rowland used to concen-trate on backing up David Birmingham before the left winger moved to Bournemouth.

Now it is Hudson grabbing defenders' attention.

Rowland, a 25-year-old bank clerk, added: "With him out on the right the formation is a bit lop-sided but that gives me more space to get forward.

"I have got Michael Birmingham on my side and he knows how to help me out. Everybody listens to him."

Dad Mick used to be vice chairman at Bognor as well as supporters' club chairman and youth team manager so he loves seeing his boy in the green and white. Especially when the goals fly in.

Jodey, who also went close in the recent draw with Carshalton, joked: "I scored once last season so my target is to beat that tally."

Former assistant boss Neil Hider is ready to cheer Bognor in their bid to stay up with the leaders.

Hider, who stunned Nyewood Lane by quitting in the summer, is about to start coaching part-time at Portsmouth's school of excellence.

He said: "Bognor's style of football is by far the best to watch in the area and I will definitely go and watch them.

"I will always support the club."
