It was the moment neighbours had been waiting for - a chance to soak their local bobby in green gunge.
The rain held off but the slime flew as residents turned out to support their first fun day to raise money for community projects.
The Denham Road and West Park Crescent Residents' Association in Burgess Hill organised the fun day at the rugby club in Southway Recreation Ground on Sunday.
PC Chris Finch was a willing victim of the gunge tank and residents who picked the correct coloured ball got to douse him in sticky green goo.
The fun day was held to help pay for outings and possibly to help celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee next year.
The association is considering boosting the £400 raised with another event at Christmas.
Association secretary Lilian Futcher said: "It was fantastic and so was PC Finch. He smiled all the way through as if he was really enjoying it."
There are some raffle prizes which have yet to be claimed. Winning tickets numbers are pink 06, pink 28, pink 124, orange 104, orange 228 and white 130.
