More than 60 nudists were trapped on a beach after the local council removed steps leading down a cliff.

Hastings Council sent workman to remove the steps down to the beach because of their poor condition.

One nudist said: "There I was happily messing about in my birthday suit and the next I was stranded.

"People were rushing around trying to find their clothes and trying to get out.

"The only way was to scale the cliff or wait for low tide and walk along the shore."

The council said there were signs instructing visitors not to use the pathway and the nudists should not have been on the beach in the first place.

A body seen floating near Brighton Marina on Saturday turned out to be a blow-up doll.

Coastguards and the Shoreham lifeboat went to investigate at 7.15am after a member of the public reported seeing what looked like a body in the water 300 yards east of the Marina.

The doll was retrieved from the water and destroyed.
