Police today released the name of a man killed in an horrific road smash.

The dead man was named as David Winder, of John's Close, Peavehaven.

The smash took place yesterday at Friston shortly before 7am and involved two Ford Fiestas.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which also left two other men seriously injured.

Mr Winder, 59, who was driving a W-registration Fiesta, was killed and his passenger, a 52-year-old man, was seriously injured.

A scaffolding manager in Eastbourne, Mr Winder leaves a widow, Linda, and two sons, Gary and James.

The driver of the other Fiesta, a 22-year-old Eastbourne man, was taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital with leg, head and chest injuries.

Both his injuries and those of Mr Winder's passenger are believed to be serious but not life-threatening.

They have not been named by Sussex Police, who operate a data protection policy.
