Eastbourne police are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed several times in the leg, arm and back.
The incident took place outside La Surfera, Sovereign Harbour, just before 2am on Saturday.
Five police units attended and the 23-year-old victim was taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital, where his injuries were described as serious but not life threatening.
Detective Constable Martin Heaps, who is leading the investigation, said: "This was an unprovoked attack at a busy time of night.
"I am appealing for any witnesses to contact me without delay. They may have important information."
The offender is described as a white man in his mid-20s, 5ft 9in tall with short blond hair. He wore a blue polo top with a St George's cross on it.
He was accompanied by a blonde female.
