Talks are still under way to avert a strike by postal workers.

Members of the Communication Workers Union in Eastbourne were meeting depot managers today to discuss the outcome of a meeting held yesterday at Burgess Hill.

The all-day meeting was held to talk about the union's dispute with Royal Mail's planned changes to the working day.

Today the meetings were continuing as Peter Sinott, regional branch secretary of the CWU, met managers to decide whether striking was still an option.

Staff had promised to vote with their feet when the changes were first announced.

Workers feared the changes would mean an earlier start for delivery staff but an overall cut of 400 hours in the working week.

They said more than 1,000 working hours a week would also be lost at the Brighton and Hove depots.

The 170 staff at the Eastbourne depot voted for seven days of industrial action in June but later agreed to hold off until further talks had been held.
