A coach driver was lucky not to be killed when yobs threw a house brick through his windscreen from a footbridge.

The brick shattered the screen and passed within inches of driver Keith Martin, who amazingly escaped with only minor cuts.

He was driving east on the A27 Brighton bypass at about 6am yesterday and had just passed the junction with the Hangleton link road when the brick hit.

Mr Martin, a mechanic with Ron's Coaches of Lancing, said: "There was an almighty bang and this brick came through the windscreen.

"If it was four or five inches to the right it would have hit me in the face."

He said it was dark and raining hard when the brick was thrown and he did not see anybody on the footbridge, which links the golf course on either side of the bypass.

Mr Martin was taken to hospital with cuts to his arms and neck but allowed to go back to work soon afterwards.

PC Dave Roughley, of Hove police, said: "If the brick had hit the driver then it could have been extremely serious - it could have been fatal."

PC Roughley appealed for witnesses to contact him at Hove police station on 0845 6070999.

A bus driver was almost blinded when youths fired a laser at his face as he sat at the wheel.

Robert Lock, 49, had to stop his Stagecoach bus and radio for assistance as his eyesight started deteriorating rapidly.

Doctors say he will have to wear tinted glasses for the rest of his life.

Two youths jumped in front of Mr Lock's double-decker bus in Battle Road, St Leonards, as he slowed for a stop.

They leaned into the bus and fired laser pens in his eyes.

Detectives are now hunting the youths, all aged around 18. One was wearing a green and white Celtic football shirt.

The incident happened on Monday August 27.
