A man is fighting for his life after he was found unconscious at his home with serious head injuries.

Timothy John, 42, is in a critical condition at Southampton General Hospital with a fractured skull and a blood clot on the brain.

Police say it is unclear how he received his injuries but Detective Constable Mark Ling has not ruled out the possibility of assault.

Mr John, of Vicarage Lane, Horsebridge, was taken to hospital in Eastbourne and transferred to the specialist neurological unit in Southampton.

Detectives want to trace his movements on Saturday, September 1.

He was seen heading for a pub in Hailsham at 3pm and police believe he planned to watch the England v Germany football match.

He was next spotted at 10.15pm in the White Hart pub in Horsebridge.

Mr Ling said: "We need to hear from anyone who saw this regular drinker between 5pm and 10pm on Saturday."

He said Mr John was well known in the area and must have been seen by someone.

It is believed he had been drinking throughout the day and police are considering the possibility that he may not have been aware of the extent of his injuries.

Mr Ling is 5ft 10in tall with short dark hair and a goatee beard.

Anyone with information should contact Mr Ling at East Downs CID on 0845 6070999 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
