Psychic cop Keith Charles has been called back into action for one more case - to solve a murder for New York's homicide department.

Keith, 50, worked as a detective for the Metropolitan Police for 30 years before retiring to Brighton to become a full-time medium.

But he was roused from his sell-out theatre tour to put his sixth sense to the test for LWT's Real Lives documentary, The Psychic Detective.

Keith flew to Buffalo, New York, where he linked up with detectives trying to solve a two-year-old murder case.

Keith spent six days on the case, meeting Nancy Mixon who believes her son, TJ, was killed.

Working from a photo of TJ, he says he managed to locate the murder weapon, which had never been found, in a drain at a warehouse owned by one of the suspects' relatives.

In a spooky twist, the warehouse has since been taken over and turned into a garage, called TJ's.

He said: "TJ's mum, Nancy, and step-dad Arnie were such a lovely couple. Their son had got mixed up in something and just disappeared.

"I felt the murder weapon was down a drain and TJ had been badly cut up."

A suspect in the case is currently awaiting extradition back to the US where Keith's information may lead to further evidence being uncovered for a future court case.

The case struck a nerve with Keith, as his own son, Matthew, was killed in a car crash at the age of 20.

During his time with the Met, Keith kept quiet about his psychic gift, which he discovered at the age of eight when his 18-month-old cousin went missing in Brighton's Black Rock swimming pool, but he has since been involved in several police investigations.

He said: "I actually think I've been more useful to the police since I left. Initially there was a lot of distrust but now people will come to me for advice.

"I ask them to treat me like any other witness - it's just I wasn't there at the time. Sometimes I can give information from the victim."

Keith's next show is at Martlets Hall, Burgess Hill, on November 16.

The Psychic Detective will be shown on ITV on Wednesday.
