A pair of 120ft chimneys which have been part of the skyline for 30 years are to be demolished.
The chimneys, at Southlands Hospital in Shoreham, are to be dismantled to make way for an energy centre.
The centre, which will cost £500,000, will be built beside the hospital.
It will house a gas-fired boiler, stand-by boiler and bulk oxygen store, which will be more efficient than the old oil-fired system.
It is hoped work on the building, which is funded by the South East regional NHS Executive, will start at the end of this year.
