An articulated lorry fell on to its side, spilling its load of scrap metal and blocking a road.
The 40-tonne vehicle was in Harbour Way, Shoreham Beach, opposite Emerald Quay when the accident happened at about 6.30 this morning.
The driver escaped without injury.
Resident Roy Sparrow said: "I heard a loud noise when it went over. I think it was trying to go around the corner when it rolled over. It has made a nice mess of the road.
"A lot of the residents here are very unhappy about the way lorries come down Harbour Way, which is mainly a residential road."
The road was closed for several hours while the lorry was recovered.
