"Parking shake-up shunted chaos our way." "Residents have complained to councillors that they cannot park in their own streets during the day."

Now they know how it felt for my fellow residents in central Hove for years.

"Residents have complained that they are reluctant to use their cars during the day because they won't be able to park again when they return."

This is exactly what I felt for years but now, as a resident with a permit, I am able to use my car and find a parking space when I return during the day.

Selborne Road gained about 35 spaces thanks to the echelon parking on one side and, since this innovation, nearly all residents can find a space at night. Double-parking has been virtually eliminated.

"Similar problems are being experienced by residents in Goldsmid ward, which includes Hove station." Oh, what a terrible shame.

Were they the ones who voted against joining the scheme and succeeded? It was pretty obvious what was going to happen to places not within the scheme when it came into force.

As far as I'm concerned, the parking scheme is a great success as far as it goes but the new parking attendants need to be much firmer. There are still a huge percentage of illegal parkers (and untaxed or dumped vehicles) who are just getting away with it.

The parking attendants supposedly number 80 (apparently there are only about 50 because of recruitment trouble) but they are certainly not swarming over Hove - they are very difficult to spot and are certainly not the visual deterrent I had hoped for.

I hope Brighton and Hove City Council does not waver in the face of these complainers. It seems there are a rash of articles daily (online) regarding a few people who have been caught yet think they should be let off.

Rules are rules and they know exactly what the rules are. If they disobey them, they have to accept the consequences.
