Crawley teenager Oliver Merrilees finished 23rd in the tenth round of the British Junior Superstock Series at Brands Hatch last weekend.

Merrilees made up two places on his starting grid position but the high point for the Dot.Com Racing team came in Friday's free practise.

The track conditions at the start of the session were wet and Merrilees was third fastest for most of the 20 minutes. However, as the track dried out, he was pushed back to 11th fastest overall.

He said: "I really enjoyed that. I thought I could go back out nearer the end of the session and get myself back up the placings but my rear tyre was shot so it would have been pointless to try."

The 17-year-old was hoping for more rain for Sunday's race but it did not materialise and he had to settle for a 23rd place finish.

However, he is looking forward to round 11 at Mallory Park next weekend. He said: "I like Mallory, so hopefully things will go well and I can come away with some points finally. However, some of these other lads are very fast."

At the previous round of the series at Cadwell Park, Merrilees gained his best result of the season to date when he finished 18th.

He said: "I could have gone even faster but could not get my head round it with the race having to be stopped twice and the pace car being sent out after a third incident."
