Police are looking for a BMW driver following two raids in which goods worth more than £3,000 were stolen.
The man, in his 30s, was seen fleeing in the direction of Lewes in the F-registration car following a burglary in Lower Road, Herstmonceux.
Two silver serving plates were stolen from the house along with a writing box bearing the name Handley.
A short time later, the same man was seen taking property valued at about £2,000 from a house in Whitesmith, including earrings, an engagement ring, gold watches and rings together with electrical equipment.
Det Sgt Judd Hinchliffe, who is leading the investigation, said: "The driver of this vehicle has treated some of the witnesses to these crimes in a threatening way.
"It would be prudent for people who sight this man to call East Downs CID immediately as we do not advise anyone to tackle him directly.
"Equally, we urge local jewellers or dealers who may be offered any of the stolen items to contact us immediately."
