Please can something be done about the upkeep of Woodingdean Cemetery? All the rose trees have been done away with and the bushes, which helped the place look like a cemetery, have gone. The machine used to clean the graves wipes out all lettering on the granite headstones so, consequently, they are unreadable and no one can find the graves of their loved ones.
I was there last week and was absolutely disgusted to see how the cemetery has been neglected or destroyed. The vases of nearly every grave were scattered all over the place. Those vases are placed in a holder attached to the headstone and I can't understand how so many were lying around. Is it a playing field for children during the evening?
I have visited this cemetery since the Sixties and used to find it to be in reasonably good order. One was able to walk through and read the names of friends who had passed away. Now it breaks my heart to see its state. How badly the authorities have allowed it to deteriorate. Even if folks had the lettering on the headstones redone, the machine would still go over the graves and cut into the writing. It's wrong.
Like everything else, with the Government privatising so many things, no one cares a damn. Why? Folks have paid a good amount of money to bury their loved ones. The results in this cemetery are a disgrace and very distressing.
