A scheme to help bosses recruit staff is bringing hope for the long-term unemployed.
Newhaven Community Employment Partnership aims to find jobs for those having difficulty getting work.
The project, which covers Newhaven, Seaford and Peacehaven, is backed by Newhaven Community Development Association.
The project's employment co-ordinator, Amber Wells, said: "Some local firms have difficulty retaining and recruiting staff. However, there are many long-term unemployed who, with the right help and training, can be a useful and loyal addition to the workforce.
"We will partner local businesses and provide a professional service matching their needs with the needs of those wishing to return to work."
The scheme, which also helps older people with disabilities and mothers returning to work, has been welcomed by businesses.
Norman Mayhew, president of Newhaven Chamber of Commerce, said: "The scheme will be a great help, especially to small businesses which find it difficult and expensive to recruit new staff."
