Three people were injured, two seriously, in a four-car crash last night.
The accident happened just after 6pm on the A26 at South Heighton near Newhaven.
The driver of a Peugeot 406, a 32-year-old man from Hove, was airlifted to Eastbourne District General Hospital with serious facial injuries.
A 48-year-old man from Burgess Hill, driving a Ford Ka, also suffered serious injuries and he was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.
Whiplash injuries were suffered by a 24-year-old man from Heathfield, driving a Vauxhall Agila.
A 37-year-old Newhaven woman, driving a Land Rover Freelander escaped injury.
Part of the road was closed while emergency services dealt with the casualties.
The names of those involved have not been released by Sussex Police, which operates data protection guidelines.
