I enjoyed Gordon Dean's piece about film actor Walter Abel, 1898-1987 (Letters, September 10).
He was also in the first version of The Three Musketeers (1935), the Danny Kaye film Kid From Brooklyn (1946) and some very good war films. He was also James Cagney's boss in 13 Rue Madeleine (1947), Raintree County (1957) and Wake Island (1942).
