A 60ft crane was used to hoist a new fantail on to a windmill used in a television series.
The windmill in Shipley, near Horsham, is the largest working windmill in Sussex and was used as the back-drop for the popular television series Jonathan Creek, starring Alan Davis and Caroline Quentin.
The work to install the fantail took place on Thursday and lasted most of the day.
The fantail is the bladed structure at the rear of the mill which keeps the main sails automatically facing into the wind.
It is more than ten feet in diameter, with six blades, and is made from Douglas fir.
The blades have had five coats of paint and it is hoped it will be a long time before they need to replaced again.
The work was carried out by Friends of Shipley Windmill, including John Lynham and Bill Mees, who head the working party which spends one day each week working on the mill.
It is currently maintained by the Shipley Windmill Charitable Trust, established by West Sussex County Council in 1987. The mill was restored to full working order in 1990.
