I hope Councillor Taylor of the Greens and his colleagues in the Socialist Alliance are willing to take their share of the responsibility for any problems that may occur at their planned march and rally during the Labour Party conference.
Presumably, some of those marching will be the same people who paraded along Brighton seafront three or four years ago, again during the Labour Party conference.
Their behaviour then was nothing short of disgraceful, with foul-mouthed chants seeming to be the order of the day. This time, however, there is a risk of much greater disruption and even civil disorder which, if it does occur, Coun Taylor and co will have to bear the lion's blame for.
Hold a rally by all means - that is what freedom of association is all about. But do they really have to march on the Brighton Centre with the subsequent risk of losing control of the situation?
