The comparison implied (Voice Of The Argus, September 12) between the anti-globalism protestors and the perpetrators of the terrorist actions in the US is both inaccurate and pernicious.
If The Argus seriously wants to contribute to the peaceful outcome of any protests in Brighton, it would be better to publicise the legitimate causes of discontent: Suffering and massive injustice suffered daily by millions of people with no respresentative democratic voice at all, through the agency of UK and US government-endorsed corporations, militarised states and rogue militias across the world.
It behoves all journalists as self-appointed guardians of the "public interest" here to inform the public accurately and help engage our head-in-the-bunker governments in the urgent task of transforming "freedom, democracy and civilisation" into something that confers real empowerment and security on more than merely a wealthy minority of world citizens.
Blurring the lines between legitimate political protest and nihilistic political murder, demonising protesters and keeping utterly silent about the much greater and less morally inhibited state violence used by the controlling cliques they oppose merely makes the situation more dangerous for everyone.
