Eastbourne scored what could be termed an upset as the Four South East side beat visitors from one division higher.
Their 17-8 verdict over Tonbridge Juddian featured tries from Adrian Norwood, Andy Moore, with an outrageous dummy, and Henry Stafford. Moore added a conversion.
Crawley were given a slow handclap by their supporters after a dismal 32-7 home defeat at home to Hampshire One outfit Petersfield.
Their only score was a late Kelvin Cartwright effort which Andy Evans goaled.
They also lost Derek Meikle and Phil Howe injured and had Michael Gildea sin-binned within seconds of going on as replacement.
Crawley have lost several players over the summer but director of rugby Mike Gosling gave new coach Steve Silver his backing.
Gosling said: "I have have attended many of Steve's training sessions and he has worked very hard installing passion and discipline to this side, both of which were sadly lacking on Saturday. I am sure we will see widespread changes for next week's first league game at home to Worthing."
East Grinstead's 63-0 romp at Cranleigh featured scores from Paul Goodwin (2), Ray Hennessey (2), Augustus (2), Justin Smith, Dan Moore, Alex Ingham, Colin Blake, Matt Lester. Conversions were added by Moore (3) and Hennessey.
Bognor were flattered by their 43-3 winning margin at home to Hove. New skipper Karl Flynn admitted: "We were poor for 60 minutes apart from our defence, which was spot on again."
Rudi Upton, Tom Spurle, Stuart Pearce, Paul Mitchell, Joe Greenslade and Andy Shipp scored tries. Pearce kicked four conversions and a penalty and Shipp added a conversion.
Chichester got Ben Polhill's tenure as skipper off to a good start by beating Seaford 42-3 at Oaklands Park.
Polhill scored in each half but his side did not really get going until after the break.
Brothers Richard and Michael Johnson also crossed with Stuart Brandon (2) and evergreeen outside half Kenny Knox completing the seven-try tally. Richard Johnson slotted two conversions and a penalty.
Martin Lawrence, the new Horsham coach in succession to Jim Maskell, is also off to a flyer.
His side saw off a strong Uckfield outfit 20-18 with tries from Richard Billings, Jamie Bartle and Andy Stone. Paul Thurston added a conversion and a penalty.
Carl Pittaway, a new signing from Hove, showed up well in the Uckield back row as tries from James Binder and Nick Ridley, who also kicked a conversion and two penalties, kept them very much in a good contest.
Hastings and Bexhill are out, despite scoring four tries at Gillingham Anchorians.
Steve McManus (2), Chris Rocks and Steve Kimber got over the line and Paul Sandeman kicked three conversions but they lost 39-26.
