Theatres in Eastbourne today announced record-breaking summer-season audiences.
Box office takings broke the £1 million barrier for the first time.
The Congress, Devonshire Park, Winter Garden and Royal Hippodrome theatres bucked the national trend for disappointing summer audiences figures.
Summer smashes in the town included Doctor Doolittle, Carmen and the award-winning play Copenhagen, direct from a successful West End run.
Eastbourne Theatres general manager Chris Jordan said: "Our new summer initiatives could not have received better support.
"We now look forward to building on our achievements and taking Eastbourne Theatres from strength to strength."
Eastbourne Theatres' own production of You're Only Young Twice was now enjoying a successful national tour, said Mr Jordan.
He predicted further success in the next 12 months.
Eastbourne has already unveiled its Christmas panto Aladdin will feature a star-studded line up including Bonnie Langford and 'Allo, 'Allo favourite Guy Siner.
Councillor Barbara Goodall, spokesman for leisure on Eastbourne Borough Council, said: "The success has far exceeded all our expectations.
"It should also be remembered that the year is yet young.
"We hope the Eastbourne Theatres pantomime will produce more of the same."
