Free test rides on an electric bicycle are being offered as part of a car-free day.
The Electric Bike Centre in Baker Street, Brighton, is putting its Powabyke to the test on Saturday as part of its efforts to promote alternative modes of transport.
Centre owner Raf Lo Russo said: "With traffic congestion rising it's often quicker to leave the car at home. Anyone can use an electric powered bicycle. There's no requirement to be fit, all you have to do is sit on the bicycle and let the motor do the work for you."
The Powabyke is run by a battery which slots between the seat and handlebars and can be recharged by any mains supply.
The bike has a top speed of 15mph and a range of more than 20 miles per charge.
Although the bike can be ridden without a licence, the age restriction for users is limited to 14 and above.
European Car-Free Day events will be taking place in more than 900 European cities and towns on Saturday to encourage people to think more carefully about their transport choice.
In Brighton, five streets will be closed to traffic for markets, stalls and a carnival. East Street, Prince Albert Street, King's Road slip road, Market Street and Bartholomews will be blocked off between 7am and 7pm.
Brighton and Hove City Council is supporting the event for the first time following criticism last year when the authority claimed its participation would interfere with Labour Party conference preparations.
