Peace protesters demonstrating in Sussex called on the US and its allies to pursue justice, not revenge, for the terror attacks on New York and Washington.
Demonstrators gathered outside the Peace Centre, in Gardner Street, Brighton, urging caution on western Governments.
Some 400 signed a petition both condemning the attacks and calling for restraint as forces continue to build in the Middle East.
Demonstrator Sarah Berger said: "A lot of people are very concerned about the threat of war and the threat of destroying vast areas of the world.
"Time needs to be taken to work out who are the perpetrators of this terrible act in New York."
Saturday's demonstration was organised after a meeting on Friday at the Friends Meeting House, Brighton.
Peace campaigners are also planning to mount a daily vigil at the war memorial in the Old Steine from 6pm to 7pm every evening, starting today.
