Albion boss Micky Adams has urged his table-toppers to stay switched on at lowly Wycombe Wanderers tonight.
The Seagulls have established an early four-point lead but Adams is warning against complacency.
"I don't think we are good enough yet to switch off and treat games lightly," he said.
"There is going to be a spell in the season, and it might be just around the corner, where we will have one, two or even three defeats.
"What the four-point gap does is give us a bit of breathing space so that we would still be near the top, but I would rather not have that spell. I want us to plough on."
Wycombe have only seven sides below them but they are hard to beat at Adams Park and could have Paul McCarthy back from injury to face his old club.
"Their home record is formidable," Adams said. "They haven't lost a game there yet.
"They have a good squad of players which, apart from Darren Currie, is generally the same as the one that got them to the semi-finals of the FA Cup last season.
"Scoring first for the first time away from home this season would help us. We want to remain positive.
"I think our away record is good. We have only lost one game out of four and the point against Tranmere is looking very good now.
"You are going to be under the cosh at certain times away from home and you have to ride it."
Albion have a doubt over Charlie Oatway. The midfielder suffered a slight groin strain on his 100th appearance for the Seagulls against Bournemouth on Saturday.
He was unable to train yesterday and faces a late fitness test, with Geoff Pitcher and Gary Hart on standby to return to the starting line-up.
Andy Crosby has turned down a loan move to Third Division strugglers Cheltenham, managed by former Albion striker Steve Cotterill.
The Argus exclusively revealed on Friday that centre half Crosby has been transfer-listed at his own request.
Fans are already being gripped by promotion fever. Tickets for the next home match against second-placed Brentford a week on Friday sold out yesterday morning within four hours.
Meanwhile, Brian Flynn has stepped down as manager of Albion's Second Division rivals Wrexham. Coach Joey Jones has taken temporary charge.
