Behind all the smokescreens the argument for an elected mayor is about how we keep Brighton and Hove safe from political extremists.
The biggest voices in the No campaign parade across The Argus letters page, such as Richard Stanton, who created a national scandal in 1984 when, as a Brighton councillor, he backed the IRA for blowing up the Grand Hotel.
Or councillor Keith Taylor who, along with assorted political extremists from the far left, is organising the Globalise Resistance march through Brighton this Saturday - the one that is causing our shopkeepers to board up their windows and costing taxpayers a fortune in extra policing.
If having an elected mayor means we keep people such as these away from the levers of power, it is the duty of all local people to vote Yes in the mayoral referendum.
