Fans packed Arlington Stadium for the last meeting of the season which included two track championships.
Points scored at various rounds throughout the summer determined the grid line-up for the stock rods race, with last year's champion Andy Sturt in pole position.
Newcomer Steve Riddle was alongside, and behind them came the experienced Steve Collison and 1999 champion Kym Weaver.
Sturt and Weaver made the early break, but after a stop-page when three cars crashed Weaver got past Sturt before another stoppage when Riddle crashed.
The pair raced side by side for several laps before Sturt squeezed past to regain the lead and went on to take the championship, with Weaver second and Collison third.
Having won from the front of the grid, Sturt then returned to his customary start at the back of the line-up for race two, gradually working his way through the field to take the lead with two laps to go.
While this was an impressive win, all eyes were on Sophie Bunoz, who has barely had a top ten finish all season but led until halfway.
Had it not been for Sturt's mastery of the damp, greasy track, she would have registered her first-ever win.
The rookie banger track championship was also staged over a six-round series during the summer, but this time the points from the final meeting were added to the points already scored.
At the start of the evening, it was still close enough for five drivers to take the title, although Mark Welland with a five-point lead over Darren Jeremiah was the favourite.
A win for Andy Baitup and eighth for Jeremiah in the opening heat increased the pressure on Welland, who responded with a fourth place in heat two.
Heat three turned out to be the decider, Baitup doing remarkably well to keep his damaged car going to make fifth, while Welland, who had also had a crash, got going again to make sixth place.
Jeremiah went out early on, so this settled it in favour of Welland, with Baitup second and Jeremiah third, followed by Simon Browne and Barry Blackman, who retained fourth and fifth overall despite not scoring all evening.
The final saw a rare win for Phil Chapman, who normally races in the Reliant Robins, and the evening concluded with the destruction derby.
Last year's track champion, Bill Wingrove, fought gallantly to the end before an engine fire and a big hit by David Gain brought his car to a standstill.
The superstox for once found themselves playing only a supporting role but provided three good races.
The East Anglian pair of Matt Carberry and Tich Gard-ner had the better of things, but the night's best drive came from world champion Mark Eaton, who had a disastrous time in both heats but battled through from the back of the grid to make third in the final.
