For half a century, weatherman Ken Woodhams has faithfully recorded details of rainfall and temperature in the garden of his home in Hove.
He has experienced some of the most remarkable weather of all time including the 1987 hurricane.
Mr Woodhams also recorded the bitter cold of the 1963 winter and the summer of 1976 which broke records for heat and drought.
The weather is so varied in the Brighton area and in Britain that it is a main topic of conversation.
But if anyone wants to settle an argument over how hot, cold or wet it was at a particular time, Ken has all the answers.
