Plans to set up a sex shop in Brighton have been rejected by city councillors.
The application by Daniel Bianciardi and Nick Brewster went before a licensing appeals sub-committee of Brighton and Hove City Council today.
There were more than 300 objections to the application for a shop in St George's Road, Kemp Town.
Environmental health manager Tim Nichols said policy was not to have a sex shop in the area.
He said there was only one in the whole city, near Brighton station, and that was there before the city council was formed.
He said the sex shop would not help the regeneration of Kemp Town and would be out of character with the area.
Police had no objections to the application but said they would want conditions imposed if it were granted.
For the applicants, Peter Bezzano said: "The same sort of articles that would be in this shop are in other shops in the city."
