Heartfelt thanks to Arundel Cathedral and The Catholic Study for Animal Welfare - The Ark for holding a service for animal creation on Saturday last.
This moving service not only restored my faith in the church but also gave me hope the church is now speaking out against man's wickedness towards God's sentient creatures.
During the service, speakers told of our mistreatment of animals and of the millions that suffer and die at the hand of man every second of every day for food, pharmaceuticals, fur and "fun" - all unnecessarily, for we are healthier in spirit, mind and body without this dreadful carnage.
Interestingly, I heard on Radio Four's Farming Today programme that a Dutch scientist at the University of Amsterdam has found a way of growing artificial meat in the laboratory without killing animals, using the same methods used to grow artificial skin.
I hope in no sense will animals be used in this process. It should be good news for the animal kingdom because so many humans seem unable to discontinue consuming animal flesh.
