Sussex Boys were unbeaten this season until losing 7.5-2.5 to Hertfordshire Boys at Mid Herts.
Sussex managed to win just two of the singles after leading the foursomes 3-2. Only Todd Adcock and Ralph Kennedy won both their matches while Tom Coulson, who halved his singles, was also unbeaten.
But the following day, in high wind and rain, Sussex recovered their poise to beat the Isle of Wight 7-5 at Selsey. George Coe (Chartham Park), introduced for his debut, halved his singles. Stephen Stark, who has been selected for EGU training, stood down for this match when Ralph Kennedy and Tom Coulson were several shots under par when winning by 6 & 5.
Also in the foursomes, Robert Bury, the Sussex captain, and George Coe, fought back from four down with four to play to halve the 17th and despite playing well, lost by 2 & 1.
After nine holes in his singles, Kennedy was three up but then lost the next five holes and went down by 3 & 1. In contrast, Tom Coulson played sub-par golf against one of the IoW's strongest performers to win by 4 & 3. In a match that could have gone either way, Glen Elphick (ESN), another change from the previous day, won by one hole.
