Hanover hot-shot Charlie Rowland narrowly failed to write himself into the Guinness Book of Records last weekend.
Charlie, featured in last week's Park Life, was looking for a record-breaking fifth successive hat-trick in his side's match against Portslade Athletic.
The 19-year-old striker scored twice but failed to net an all-important third in Hanover's 3-0 win.
Prior to the game Charlie's team-mates had vowed to do everything to help him achieve his feat but Hanover simply left it too late.
Charlie scored the opener after 70 minutes with a low drive into the far corner and a second goal came from man-of-the-match Mark Henry before the striker scored again two minutes from time to get another.
He said: "Afterwards I was pretty gutted, I think we all were. England getting through cheered us up and we had a few beers in The Cobden. The manager Jeff Freeland called the pub from Florida to find out how we got on and, although we won, he was disappointed. I hope we haven't spoilt his holiday."
Charlie consoled himself that at least he did not miss an open goal or hit the woodwork. But it is not all bad news for the Hanover lads.
He said: "I reckon I could do it again with the team I have got around me. I hope to go on and break the record in the future. We are still on for a league and cup double."
