Bognor are top of division one following a 2-0 win at title favourites Carshalton and boss Jack Pearce is thrilled.
Pearce said: "What a great result. It is always nice to get a point away from home, but when you get three it's a real bonus. I was delighted with the way we dug in and more than matched the opposition, but our technical play in the second period left room for improvement."
The Rocks deservedly took the lead in the 26th minute when David Birmingham found space on the left before drilling over a low ball, which was met by Nicky Wyatt who poked a low shot inside the post past the despairing Stuart Searle.
Craig Stoner was then called upon to ensure he kept Bognor's lead intact as he punched clear a corner under pressure before flicking the close-range follow up from McKenzie over the bar.
Bognor went two-up in first-half injury time. Simon Funnell, who had replaced Jody Rowland, found Matt Russell with a perfect ball over the top of the defence and the Bognor striker netted.
Despite being under pressure for periods the Bognor defence stood firm and Stoner claimed a well deserved clean sheet.
Worthing suffered a disappointing 4-2 home defeat against Bishops Stortford after coming back to level at 2-2 with 23 minutes remaining.
Late goals from Gary Kimble and Trevor Paul gave the Hertfordshire side maximum points and Rebels boss Sammy Donnelly said: "It was a real choker."
Kimble fired Stortford ahead with a free-kick after Andrew Beech was adjudged to have fouled Vinnie John, but Donnelly said: "We were very hard done by. No way was it a free-kick.
"To lose it in such a fashion is disappointing after we worked so hard to get back in the game."
Worthing conceded two goals in the space of seven minutes in the first half with striker Paul firing the visitors ahead on 20 minutes after their first corner was only half-cleared.
Troy Braham doubled the advantage, but Lee Weston struck with a well placed shot six minutes after the break and Gavin Geddes cashed in on a mistake by Ray Taylor to equalise on 67 minutes.
But Worthing were stunned when defender Kimble curled in the disputed free-kick past keeper James Wastell, and Paul rounded things off with a cool finish a minute from time.
