I am so glad to see the issue of Brighton Marina cliffs being raised at last and wish to contribute to the debate by questioning the health and safety wisdom behind the decision to close this path.
I and my children, along with thousands of others, walk and ride our bikes along this path because it is long, beautiful, natural, quiet and car-free.
Anxiety levels are low among parents because it is a safe place to ride.
Now it is closed, the children are riding their bikes on the roads, which is very dangerous, or not being allowed to ride at all - which is not healthy.
So closing this path has increased levels of danger and decreased health - the very reverse of what is intended.
All this path needs is a good clean-up. This has always been the policy in the past and it has been effective.
Last winter was exceptionally wet but that is no reason to spoil the cliffs or close the path.
