I am appalled to hear the health authority is seriously considering moving the Nigel Porter Breast Care Unit to Haywards Heath.
Having had breast surgery in 1991 under surgeon Mr Hogbin - since retired - for which I was very fortunate, I then became involved in a small way to raise money for a much-needed separate breast unit because the conditions in the Royal Sussex County Hospital at that time were far from favourable (apart from the treatment I received from Mr Hogbin and Macmillan nurse Michele Stacey, for which I shall be forever grateful).
If I had had to travel to Haywards Heath, I'm not sure I would have been able to cope with the trauma.
Many older women do not drive. The hospital is cutting back on transport and it would be almost impossible to get to Haywards Heath by public transport.
It takes almost the whole day from my area.
The Royal Sussex County Hospital is not getting good publicity at the moment. Do not make it any worse.
Brighton Health Care NHS Trust must have a rethink on this proposed project. Many people worked really hard to get the unit up and going. Don't let us down.
