A threatened East Sussex school bus service has been granted a reprieve.
The 113 service, which takes children to Annecy Roman Catholic school in Seaford, was due to be cancelled in a series of cuts and changes to bus routes by East Sussex County Council.
However, the service has now been granted a stay of execution until an alternative is found.
Lewes MP Norman Baker said: "This is welcome news. The withdrawal of the 113 bus would have left those children who depend upon it with an unworkable journey to school, involving a change of bus and a long walk at the Seaford end, crossing a dangerous road.
"I accept the 113 is uneconomic and will probably need to be discontinued but it is vital that a sensible alternative arrangement is put in place first for those children who use the service.
"That might be the diversion of an alternative existing service or the use of a dedicated minibus.
"If cuts do have to be made to services, it is important that the consequences are thought through first and proper provision made."
