I have already signed the petition to keep the Nigel Porter Unit in the Brighton and Hove area but I wanted to reinforce my protest at its possible removal by a personal letter.
I have experienced the care, reassurance and help that this unit can give when coping with breast cancer.
The knowledge it is readily accessible is a source of great comfort.
It is a nonsense to even consider moving the unit away from this area, where it is well-established and supported, with all the resultant travel problems.
How can a unit that is so obviously offering an excellent service come "under threat of closure for failing to meet Government targets"?
What are these targets? Why can they be met in Haywards Heath and not Brighton and Hove?
Is this a case of financial expediency rather than considering the patients' wishes and needs?
By all means relocate to the Hove Polyclinic if this is feasible but do not override the wishes of local people by moving this unit from Brighton.
