A man was killed and two others injured when the car they were in crashed into a tree.
The 19-year-old passenger, thought to be from the Hastings area, died at the scene from his injuries, while the others were treated for cuts and bruises.
The three were travelling on the A259 Winchelsea Road, Guestling, near Hastings, when their Citroen Xsara car crashed.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash, at 5.33pm yesterday, and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
Firefighters were called to the scene to make the vehicle safe and clear the road of petrol and oil.
The dead man's name will not be released until relatives have been informed.
A police spokesman said: "It is too early to say anything yet."
A motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital after his bike was involved in a crash with a car.
The accident blocked the road for more than an hour during yesterday evening's rush hour, with traffic tailing back from the Drusillas roundabout on the A27 at Beddingham, near Lewes.
The motorcyclist, who has not been named, was flown by police helicopter to Eastbourne District General Hospital. He had several fractures.
No one in the car was injured in the accident, at 4.50pm.
