It is really beyond me to understand the motive of our teachers.
The National Union of Teachers (NUT) demands the singing of Sir Edward Elgar's Land Of Hope And Glory is banned at the Schools' Prom at the Royal Albert Hall.
The reason given is it is too "triumphalist" given the conflict in Afghanistan.
I have never read such tripe in all my life. The composer Sir Tim Rice said anyone who took the words of the popular tune literally must be stupid. Elgar was trying to convey that we liked our country.
If this ban goes ahead, I will know terrorism is a winner and all the good work Tony Blair is doing is a waste of time. In a nutshell, the NUT is nuts.
