I believe change in local government is essential but, as with so many recent political decisions, we risk a headlong charge into the unknown with all the uncertainty a city mayor could bring us.
Remember the Dome, the new Wembley Stadium farce, the new athletics stadium for London (none will happen)?
All these disasters reflect the worrying way we have plunged unthinkingly into key projects that have not been properly thought through.
The continuing street-cleaning farrago is a prime example.
An elected city mayor is another potential disaster. Let other cities try the concept first.
If, after all the mistakes have been made and lessons learnt, our city feels it is right, we can go down this course.
But, in the meantime, let us have all the options for a change in local government spelt out properly and clearly, not this half-baked uncertainty a Yes vote would bring.
The Nos will have my vote.
