Avid reader, as Mr F W Parkhouse of Brighton describes himself, certainly knows his racing.

He spotted the story about the 2001 Emirates Airline Legends Race on our racing page last Tuesday contained an error.

He explains: "You stated that Geoff Lewis rode three Classics in a week - the Derby, the Oaks and the Coronation Cup. In 1971, he rode Mill Reef in the Derby for P Mellon and Altesse Royal in the Oaks but the Coronation Cup is not a Classic.

"The Classics are as follows: The Derby, colts and fillies, 1.5 miles; 2000 Guineas, colts and fillies, 1 mile; 1000 Guineas, fillies, 1 mile; St Leger, colts and fillies, 1 mile and 6 furlongs, and the Oaks, 1.5 miles."

Thanks, Mr Parkhouse, you clearly know your stuff.

Christine Wales, of Rottingdean, was "surprised" to read a news in brief in Monday's paper stating Roy Wales would conduct a performance of Mendelssohn's Elijah at St Bartholomew's Church in Brighton the following day.

In fact, the concert took place last Saturday.

Apologies to Christine, who is the administrator of the Pro Musica Chamber Choir, of which Mr Wales is also conductor (and maybe some relation?). To make amends, here's a mention of Mr Wales' next outing.

That's at St George's Hall in Kemp Town next Tuesday (7.30pm) when he will conduct the choir mentioned above in a concert of music by Purcell and Britten. Tickets, price £8 (£6 concessions), are available on the door or in advance from Kemp Town Books (01273 682110) and Pro Musica (01273 300894).

Sheila Bartle's letter in last Saturday's paper stated her husband was a regular sailor for 18 years and served in the North Atlantic, going from Liverpool to Malta in the Second World War.

Mrs Bartle, of Portslade, points out that in fact he served from the age of 18 to 60 and she didn't know his port of embarkation for Malta for security reasons. Sorry.

Our makeover feature in The Argus Woman in Monday's paper gave the wrong number for make-up artist Emma Bromell. The correct number is 07779 093537.

Artist Colin Rayne, who was featured in last Friday's If It's On ... , wishes to point out the exhibition of his work at his Saltdean home is open for the first Sunday of each month from November 4, not November 8, as we stated. Call 01273 302826 for more details.

Thank you to the callers who pointed out that Marjorie Orr's horoscopes in last Saturday's paper were, as one person put it, "diabolical, jumbled up and a right mess". They were indeed, thanks to a computer problem.

Sorry - but no one could have predicted that.

Finally, G W King, of Woodingdean, points out that our story on October 1 about a care worker whose car was towed away contained a quote from "a city council spokesman" who was then referred to as "she". Blimey, not even an elected mayor can do that!
